Study in America
Graduate Program in Washington, D.C.
Summer 2024
Program Overview
This Study in America program is designed to offer an immersive learning experience in Washington, D.C. The course — Exploring Accounting Oversight in Washington, D.C. — will bridge classroom theory with real-world experiences, providing a holistic understanding of the regulatory landscape through exploration of the key institutions shaping the accounting profession. The core of the course will consist of guided visits to key institutions over the course of a week, with the inaugural trip planned for June 9-15, 2024. During this week, we will visit institutions such as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Government Accounting Office. We will also visit with a member of our Texas Congressional Delegation on Capitol Hill and visit the U.S. Capitol Building, White House, Supreme Court, Library of Congress, and more. Students will also have ample time on their own to explore the many museums, monuments, and cultural activities available in our nation’s capital.
Program Faculty
Dr. Nate Cannon spent several years working in public accounting as an auditor for KPMG, earned his Ph.D. from Bentley University in 2013, and has loved teaching at Texas State ever since. He has had the good fortune to travel to Washington, D.C., numerous times to share his scholarly research and to meet with the various regulatory institutions there. As such, he is uniquely positioned (and eager!) to offer a similar transformative experience to Texas State students.
