Sam Barshop Excellence Professorship in Entrepreneurship Awarded to Dr. Taewon Suh
The Sam Barshop Excellence Professorship in Entrepreneurship recognizes faculty excellence and innovation in the area of entrepreneurship and indicates McCoy College’s commitment to promote entrepreneurship education, scholarship, and outreach. The professorship is awarded to a full-time faculty member in the McCoy College of Business with an established record of teaching, research, and service in entrepreneurship for a three-year term. The newest recipient of the professorship has been awarded to Dr. Taewon Suh, Professor, Department of Marketing.
Dr. Suh joined Texas State University in 2000, after receiving a PhD in International Business Marketing from St. Louis University in 2004 and a PhD in Mass Communication from Sogang University (Korea) in 1998. Taewon has experience with startups and incubators in the US, Europe, and Asia. He founded the Entrepreneurship Innovation Group in 2010 and has linked it to the Texas State I-Corps Program, where he is actively involved. His vision for entrepreneurship is multidisciplinary; he understands that no discipline has all the answers or knowledge to help entrepreneurs, including startups and students with a desire to be entrepreneurs. He plans to continue broadening his knowledge of entrepreneurship, expanding his research impact, and deepening his involvement in entrepreneurship activities, such as working with the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Deep Dive, and incubators within Texas State University and around the globe. He is a prolific and well-published researcher (with over 3,500 Google Citations) in several areas, such as Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Marketing, Industrial Design, International Business, and Media Technology. His knowledge of these areas has led him to create a course in Marketing Entrepreneurship, which is being offered for the first time this fall. The course was created to serve the entrepreneurship concentration as well as other McCoy undergraduate students interested in starting their own business and increasing their marketing skills.
