MBA Field Projects

The MBA Field Projects at McCoy College of Business bring together diverse teams of final-semester MBA students to work with representatives from area companies, nonprofits and municipalities to complete a strategic analysis project and develop recommendations on current, business-defined issues.

The projects are driven by the needs of the organization and vary in topic, detail and scope. Students are prepared for a wide range of projects regardless of the size or complexity of the organization.

MBA students working with the San Antonio Zoo

“The San Antonio Zoo is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and resources are often stretched. We are more than pleased with the Texas State MBA Field Project partnership.

We had three MBA teams analyze, research and formulate action plans for our customer service program, water conservation efforts and system components for cost of goods sold.

The students were diligent, creative and productive. We look forward to a long-standing relationship with Texas State and the Field Project program. The program has a positive impact on zoo operations, and we appreciate the students’ hard work and passion for our industry.”

What is the time frame?

Projects are completed during each semester (fall, spring and summer).

How many students work on each project?

Typically, three to five students per team.

What deliverables will we receive?

The team provides a comprehensive report and formal presentation.

Is there a cost to participate?

Our ultimate goal is to build strong and long-standing relationships with our participants. To help support the MBA Field Projects and enhance other activities that enable students to better serve clients, we encourage participants to consider a gift to the McCoy College of Business Administration.

Although there is currently no cost to participate, reimbursement for direct costs (e.g., travel expenses, copying costs, etc.) to the students is requested.

Will our organization’s confidential information be protected?

All information is treated with discretion and students adhere to strict
confidentiality requirements.

We’re super impressed by the students and really enjoyed their findings for the capstone project.
