Beta Gamma Sigma and Awards Recognition

Each spring the McCoy College of Business celebrates the business students that have been invited to join Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS), McCoy College scholarship recipients and outstanding graduating seniors. In addition, the College recognizes BGS chapter honorees. The Awards Day Ceremony highlights the achievements of our students and the honorees in a celebratory event shared with family, friends and donors.

This feature takes the place of the Spring 2020 Awards Day Ceremony and includes all of the recognitions and awards that would have been celebrated on that special day.

Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) is the International Business Honor Society that recognizes and honors top performing students from around the world in business schools accredited by AACSB, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. It recognizes the top 10% of undergraduate students, top 20% of graduate students and all doctoral candidates that have successfully defended their dissertation at an AACSB-accredited school. AACSB accredits approximately 5% of business schools worldwide. There are more than 600 collegiate chapters, 32 alumni chapters and 13 alumni networks with lifetime members in over 190 countries. BGS was founded on and continues to promote the values of honor and integrity, the pursuit of wisdom, earnestness, and service.

At the recognition ceremony new members will hear the significance of Beta, Gamma and Sigma, and recite the new members' pledge that is found below.

Beta signifies honor...Honor is personal integrity and excellence of character. It is an enduring quality found in all persons who deserve to lead others.

Gamma signifies wisdom…Wisdom is knowledge tested by experience and tempered by discerning judgment. It abhors prejudice; it insists upon freedom of thought and expression.

Sigma signifies earnestness…Earnestness is enthusiasm measured by achievement, disciplined by reason and ennobled by sincerity. It is that dynamic quality which is essential for all great achievement.

Beta Gamma Sigma...For the best in business.
