Finance Students Place Second at TIPS and CFA Competition

On Saturday, February 23, 110 students, faculty, CFA charterholders, investment professionals and guests gathered for the 16th annual TIPS Portfolio Management Competition. For the 3rd year in a row, a McCoy College team competed in the Portfolio Management Competition which is held in conjunction with the Texas Investment Portfolio Symposium (TIPS) / Southwest US Research Challenge and sponsored by the CFA Societies of Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma.

Student Managed Funds from all universities in the three state area were invited to submit a 4 page proposal for detailing how they would manage an institutional investment account. This year’s finalists along with Texas State University were Baylor, Texas Lutheran, and University of North Texas.  The teams presented in front of a panel of judges who are professional portfolio managers and CFA Charterholders.

The McCoy College team comprised of Bryce Curtis, Trevor Raedisch and Hailey Wingfield placed second in the competition behind Texas Lutheran. Baylor University placed third. Dr. Hol Toles is the faculty advisor for the SMIF team.
