DALLAS — Diane Eure, CPA, senior lecturer of accounting at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, was named a 2016 recipient of the Texas Society of CPAs’ (TSCPA) Outstanding Accounting Educator Award.

The statewide award honors Texans who have demonstrated excellence in teaching and who have distinguished themselves through active service to the accounting profession. Criteria for judging includes instructional innovation, student motivation, the pursuit of learning opportunities for students, involvement in student and professional accounting organizations, and research accomplishments and publications.

Eure teaches Introduction to Managerial Accounting to more than 200 Texas State business students every semester and serves as a course coordinator for more than 700 students who are enrolled in managerial accounting every semester. She is recognized as a rigorous instructor who encourages critical analysis and depth of thought by combining traditional and innovative teaching methods. She uses practical learning opportunities like her “Excel Project” to teach fundamental cost accounting principles and how they are necessary for a career in business.

Eure continuously looks for creative ways to reinforce traditional accounting lessons while creating an interactive environment that engages students. She incorporates videos, real-world headlines, games, quizzes and classroom participation to reinforce her lessons.

To help students excel outside of the classroom, Eure serves as the academic advisor for the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), where she provides assistance with their meetings, events and annual regional conference. She was honored with NABA’s Faculty Advisor of the Year award in 2012 and was a 2013 dean nominee for Texas State’s Presidential Award for Excellence in Service. She is also a member of the Texas Society of CPAs and the American Accounting Association, where she has reviewed 14 papers/proposals for the southwest region on a variety of accounting topics.

Eure was recognized at an award ceremony held in conjunction with the annual TSCPA Accounting Education Conference that took place Oct. 28-29 in Dallas.
