President, Focus Strategies Investment Banking
Gary Valdez is the President of Focus Strategies Investment Banking, a privately owned Texas-based investment banking firm. The company provides private equity advisory and investment services, serving middle market and later stage growth companies.
Mr. Valdez founded Focus Strategies LLC in 1999 after a 25-year commercial banking career. He began his banking career with Texas Commerce Bank (formerly Capital National Bank) in 1975. After 10 years, he joined Cattlemen's State Bank as president and chief executive officer, helping to build the bank's assets from $2 million to $110 million in just nine years. When Vctoria Bank & Trust purchased Cattlemen's in 1995, Mr. Valdez was named regional director. When Norwest purcased Victoria, he became Norwest/Wells Fargo's president and managing officer for the Austin market.
Mr. Valdez chairs the Board of Managers for Ascention Health Ventures and serves as an advisory board member for Texas Capital Bank. Mr. Valdez also serves on the Board of Directors for Styx Capital, Current Solutions LLC, Magnum Tunneling, Displays Unlimited, and Forefront Austin.
Mr. Valdez is an active city leader and serves on the boards of St. Edwards University, the Austin Area Research Organization, Seton Healthcare Network, PeopleFund, Texas Lutheran University Corporation, and Greater Austin Crime Commission. He also is a member of the Governor's Business Council. Mr. Valdez was recognized by the Greater Austin Chamber as the 2004 "Austinite of the Year."
Gary Valdez is a graduate and a distinguished alumnus of Texas Lutheran College (BBA) and St. Edwards's University (MBA). He also is a distinguished athletic alumnus at Texas Lutheran University.
Mr. Valdez is a native Texas and Austinite. He is married to Cynthia Valdez and they have two children, Matthew Valdez and Lauren Valdez Greenwood.
