A successful real estate developer, Darren Casey's real estate career began in Midland, Texas handling the leasing of office and retail properties. From there Casey joined Henry S. Miller Company in San Antonio, where he was involved with several downtown re-development projects from acquisition through construction, including the marketing and leasing of the properties. In 1984, he joined the San Antonio office of New York based Cushman & Wakefield, where he specialized in tenant representation and asset acquisition and disposition for major corporations.
Through his involvement in some of the city's largest transactions and corporate relocations, Casey has become one of the leading commercial real estate specialists in Texas and was named Top Producer for San Antonio as well as the Texas region for several years. In 1992 Casey purchased the San Antonio office of Cushman & Wakefield and founded Baxer Southwest Corporate Realty Services, Inc. (Baxter Southwest) and Casey Development Ltd. Baxter Southwest, Casey Development's management company affiliate has managed up to 1 million square feet of commercial property and provides services including asset management, project leasing, asset acquisitions and disposition.
Casey Development Ltd. provides a variety of development services for commercial projects, as well as large mixed-use land developments. The company has become one of Texas' leading development companies, having developed over 3 million square feet of office, retail, industrial and multi-family residential properties. In 2004 Casey completed several properties in the famed Aspen Highland Five Trees development in Aspen, CO. Three years later the company closed one of the largest transactions in San Antonio history with the sale of 900,000 square feet of office properties (valued at $114 million).
Following his philosophy of giving back to the community, in February 2008 Casey presented a gift of $1.2 million to his alma mater. In appreciation, the university's athletic administration complex was named in honor of Casey. He also is a McCoy College of Business distinguished benefactor.
Casey received his BBA in Business in 1981 and was selected as a Texas State Distinguished Alumnus for 2009. During his career Casey has been recognized by the Wall Street Journal, the National Real Estate Investor and the Urban Land Institute. He has been named an Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year, Texas Business Magazine's Texas' Top Land Developer and was inducted into the San Antonio 40 and Under Business Hall of Fame.
