Darrell Kirksey, President, Allied Hand Dryer
Darrell Kirksey, a 1985 graduate of Oregon State University (BBA in Restaurant & Hotel Management), desired from a young age to own his own business. Recruited by Furr’s Cafeterias for their management training program, Darrell moved to Lubbock, Texas in May 1985 and has been a Texan for the past 32 years. In the fall of 1987, Darrell took a position as Food Service Manager for Canteen Corporation in San Antonio. Jodi and Darrell married in October 1987, and shortly thereafter, Darrell began looking for a business to purchase. In August 1988, at age 24, Darrell began his career as entrepreneur with the purchase of Allied Hand Dryer. Since that time, Darrell has purchased/started nine businesses. Continually looking for opportunities to grow and seize opportunities has been vital to the success of each of Darrell’s businesses.
Allied Hand Dryer is the largest independent distributor of hand dryers and of baby changing stations in the country, serving over 2,400 active customers in all 50 states and more than 20 countries. In addition to having a reputation as the hand dryer expert, Darrell has developed a keen sense for who his customers are and marketing the business/products to attract & reach new customers. Darrell’s commitment to customer service, his employees, integrity, and careful inventory and cost controls has allowed Allied Hand Dryer to prosper beyond what he or Jodi could imagine.
Darrell has a unique view on business ownership and the commitment/risk/boldness it takes to make a business successful.
Jodi Phillips Kirksey, H-E-B (retired)
Jodi Phillips Kirksey, a 1986 graduate of Texas State University (BBA in Management), began her career with HEB Grocery Company in Accounting after working at the H-E-B headquarters during college breaks. Upon obtaining her CPA Certification, Jodi made a career change within H-E-B from Accounting to Real Estate, and eventually led the Shopping Center Development Team developing, leasing and managing H-E-B’s shopping centers. After retiring in 2015, Jodi’s dedication became much less focused on tasks and transactions, and more focused on relationships. Jodi enjoys her involvement with Allied Hand Dryer on a corporate level, but her passion is coming along-side and encouraging young women, especially in the areas of marriage and parenting. Jodi’s ability to have a meaningful career, while still enjoying and nurturing her family, has inspired and given confidence to other women.
